Hi guys,
I moved here from NYC last September where I studied, taught, and performed Samba de Bahia, Rio, and Roda; Afoxe Ijexa, Iansa, Maculele, and all the yummy rhythmic traditions of Brazil. I miss it so, and am hoping to find classes and community here in the LA area. I live in the valley and own and run a business in Venice, CA. Hoping to find the "good medicine" near by.
Holla! Mo'Le Moon....blessings.

Re: Looking for Samba (classes & dance community) in LA
Wed, January 2, 2008 - 10:22 PMI don't know if I've posted this here, but there is a sambista list through yahoo. A lot of what gets sent out is music that is happening in the bay area, but LA and NYC, Florida, Oregon and Seattle have been mentioned recently. You probably have to have a yahoo membership, but that's free and I don't use the yahoo email for info from the list.
Here's a link to subscribe if you are interested:

I hope you find a community. If you move to Portland, I can direct you to a bateria and a Thursday night Pagode jam.
