Burning Samba 2007 Performs on the Playa!

Hello my lovely sambistas!

As some of you may know, I had knee surgery this January and still getting my ass back to climbing stairs at the present moment. For this reason, I am not planning on teaching Samba but that may change.

HOWEVER: Fallen Angel of The Havana Room has invited me to do a little performance on the playa....

REQUEST: 2 or 3 experienced samba dancers to team up with me on the playa for a short choreographed performance on the stage of the Havana Room...we'll put together costume idea, choose some music, get a few moves down.... NO STRESS, JUST FUN.

    I am an experienced sambista currently living in New Zealand, but originally from the bay area in California.... I teach Afro-Carribean Samba in Wellington. I would love to team up on the playa for a performance, that's why I joined this tribe! I can bring an iridescent royal blue or gold bra and belt set and I have some white patent leather samba boots which have already seen the playa...... Let me know!

      YES!

      very cool, can't wait to meet you! who did you dance with in the Bay Area?

      I've got a red and gold feather bra, just have to make the bikini bottom and a non-moopy headdress that won't cost too much and some boot covers.....

      And I've also got tons of Batucada, Axe and Samba Reggae tunes to choose from....

      So we need about 2 more experienced dancers (guys welcome!)...

        Hey, sorry M,

        I didn't check back on this thread for awhile!

        I danced w/ Jacques Barnes at Alice Arts Center in Oakland, then with Edilson Lima's group in Chicago, and now i'm down in NZ making it up as I go along!!!! So it sounds like I should bring my gold set to be coordinated with ya! I can try to see about a headdress too, it's tough since they don't like feathers @ burning man because of the clean up fiasco it makes for the Earth Guardians..... There just doesn't seem to be a worthy feather substitution for a samba headdress! Any ideas? This will be fun!!!!

          i can't say this is going to happen. my knees are not in good shape and i've been ordered into sneakers and flamenco shoes only by my doctors.

          seems i'm grounded this year. **but not for long!**

          that said though, headdress on the playa - -you can wear feathers but they must be sturdy and solidly glued into the piece. just know its going to be a very very dusty year so whatever you bring will be playa-fied forever.

            oh, i'm sad to hear that. it 's so hard to be grounded by an injury when you have a lot of dance in ya. it sounds like you're being smart though - i had a foot injury several years back that never fully healed because i wouldn't stay off it. i hope your knees are better soon and you can shake your stuff!!!

            i was looking forward to dancing with you.

            maybe another year.....
